Welcome to the Center of Clinical Epidemiology

Welcome to the WebPage of the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology (ZKE) at the Institute for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (IMIBE) of the University Hospital Essen, which was founded with my appointment to the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen in September 2014.

The ZKE is dedicated to the entire spectrum of epidemiology, which includes research into risk factors of diseases, the evaluation of early detection, diagnostic and prognostic procedures in medicine as well as the evaluation of therapies. The ZKE is committed to "Good Epidemiological Practice" (GEP) and "Good Clinical Practice" (GCP). In addition to conducting its own studies with primary data collection, the ZKE conducts a number of data evaluation Projects. These include projects with cancer registry data, hospital diagnosis data and mortality data.

Furthermore, the ZKE carries out a series of consultations with colleagues from the clinics and institutes of the University Medicine Essen. For consultations, please fill in the form https://www.imibe.de/dienstleistung/. You will then be offered a consultation appointment.

For young scientists, the ZKE runs the PhD program "Epidemiology and Clinical Research" and participates in the core "Clinical Research" at BIOME. In medical studies, the ZKE participates in the courses "QB1 Epidemiology, Medical Biometry and Medical Informatics" and "QB6 Clinical Environmental Medicine". The ZKE has won the achievers price ("Aufsteigerpreis") for the winter semester 2015/2016 and the winter semester 2017/2018.

The ZKE explicitly opposes the dichotomization of p-values (significant versus not significant) and has presented its reasons for this in several international publications.

From October 2017 to September 2019 Prof. Stang is President of the German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS e.V.).
