The University of Duisburg-Essen Medical Faculty at the University Hospital of Essen

Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen Medical Faculty at the University Hospital of Essen focuses on the key areas of cardiovascular medicine, oncology and transplants as well as genetic medicine, infectious diseases and immunology. Locating the faculty and the University Hospital on a single campus enables us to interlink research and clinical care very closely, ensuring we are able to apply the latest findings very quickly to the care we give our patients.

Scientists from many different disciplines work at the Medical Faculty, all with the aim of helping achieve progress in medical science: Our networked research groups at national and international level work on improving diagnosis and treatment. To this end we are involved in joint research projects with other departments of the University of Duisburg-Essen and a wide array of collaborations with domestic and foreign research institutions.

A further objective of the Medical Faculty is to impart knowledge and skills to junior medics and scientists. For the education of students we offer a wide range of subjects - foundational scientific and medical studies, clinical subjects and disciplines in psychology and sociology. Dealing with patients on a direct, personal level is just as much part of our training as the integration of theoretical and practical knowledge.
