Facts and Figures

Patients with diffuse non-Hodgkins lymphoma: 450

Patients with blood cancer, myeloid leukemia: 300

Patients with blood cancer, lymphatic leukemia: 200

Intermediate and high grade intense chemotherapy regimens: approximately 600

Isolation of hematopoetic stem cells from bone marrow and peripheral blood for transplants: 100

Focus areas

Research and treatment of non-Hodgkins lymphomas. Application, trials, and introduction of state-of-the-art therapeutic procedures including high-dose therapy combined with autologous blood stem cell transplants, immune therapy and tumor-specific, molecularly defined treatment forms. Entire spectrum of hematology, hemato-oncology, and hemostaseology. Outpatient treatment in the hematology clinic and its associated chemotherapy unit. Allogeneic blood stem cell transplants are carried out at the Clinic for Bone Marrow Transplants.

Special consultations

  • Hematologic outpatient clinic
  • Hematologic chemotherapy clinic
  • Blood clotting clinic

Fields of Research

Clinical trials (phases I to IV) for the improvement of outcomes in acute and chronic leukemia, myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative syndromes, Hodgkins and non-Hodgkins lymphomas, multiple myelomas, immune defects, anemia, thrombocytopenia, and other blood clotting disorders.

Experimental research in the fields of genetic susceptibility to blood disorders, malignant transformation of blood forming cells, molecular characterization of hematopoetic, endothelial and leukemic stem cells, the importance of the hematopoetic micro-environment for the manifestation of leukemia, and the utilization of tumor-specific molecular aberrations for targeted pharmacotherapeutic interventions.

Number of patients

Inpatient: 1,700

Outpatient: 15,000

The clinic employs 18 physicians, including 10 specialists in internal medicine and 8 in hematology and internal medicine oncology, as well as 35 nurses. Of all employees, 18% have advanced specialized training in the clinic's fields.
