Focus areas

The Institute of Pathophysiology focuses on experimental work in the fields of atherosclerosis, heart failure, myocardial and cerebral ischemia and reperfusion.

  • Regulation of coronary flow in normal perfusion, ischemia, and reperfusion
  • Ischemic pre- and post-conditioning
  • Coronary micro-embolization
  • Heart failure
  • Ischemia and reperfusion of heart, liver, kidneys, and brain
  • Autonomous regulation of the heart during ischemia and reperfusion
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Mechanisms of cardiac apoptosis
  • Transcriptional control of the inhibitors of apoptosis proteins and their role in the heart
  • Development of novel tracers for molecular imaging such as PET
