1974: Establishment of the Institut für Biostatistik und Dokumentation (Institute of Biostatistics and Documentation) with the appointment of Professor H. G. Schmitt

1977: The Institute is renamed Institut für Medizinische Informatik und Biomathematik (Institute of Computer Science in Medicine and Biomathematics)

1994: Appointment of Professor K.-H. Jöckel. The Institute is renamed Institut für Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie (IMIBE)

The tasks of the Institute include teaching and research in the fields of computer science in medicine, biostatistics, and epidemiology.

With the Centre for Urban Epidemiology (Head: Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Susanne Moebus, MPH) the IMIBE takes part in the Main Research Area “Urban Systems“ at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

We provide the full range of CRO services in the Centre for Clinical Studies of Essen (Zentrum für Klinische Studien Essen, ZKSE, Scientific Director: Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Karl-Heinz Jöckel).
