THYROID TUMORIGENESIS/THYROID CANCER

Thyroid carcinomas are the most frequent endocrine malignancies. Differentiated carcinomas (DTC), which develop from thyroid hormone producing thyrocytes, have an excellent prognosis in contrast to radioiodine refractory differentiated, poorly differentiated (PDTC) and anaplastic thyroid cancers (ATC). Medullary thyroid cancers evolve from the C-cells and occur as sporadic or hereditary MTC. Our research focusses on molecular pathogenesis of thyroid cancer and their tumor microenvironment in human and murine thyroid carcinoma models to identify novel prognostic tools and to develop innovative therapies for aggressive thyroid malignancies.
