Teaching

The ZKE participates in the curricular teaching of medical studies in the course QB1 (epidemiology, medical biometrics and medical informatics). The teaching objective of this course is to enable prospective physicians to find medical literature on relevant questions and to evaluate it critically. This course does not replace an in-depth literature study for a medical dissertation.

Furthermore, the ZKE participates in the curricular teaching of medical studies in course QB6 (Clinical Environmental Medicine). The teaching objective here is to put the prospective physicians in a position to identify symptoms, diseases and sources of an exposition towards harmful environmental influences, to detect risk-taking behavior with regard to pollutants relevant to environmental medicine and to advise patients on environmental risks.

The core module "Clinical Research" within BIOME (Graduate School of Biomedical Science) offers doctoral students who are involved in a patient-oriented research project various events that prepare them for such projects (study plan, data protection, ethical review, sample size calculations, statistics, etc.).

The PhD program "Epidemiology & Clinical Research" is a 3-year program that can be completed part-time and leads to the PhD degree. In its structure this program is unique in Germany. Doctoral students are supervised by two mentors and the program offers structured further training in epidemiological and statistical methods.

At the University of Düsseldorf, the ZKE holds one 3-day course per year on cancer epidemiology in the Master of Public Health program of the University of Düsseldorf.

The ZKE holds courses in the Master of Science of Epidemiology (MSE) course at the Universities of Mainz and the Charité Berlin.
