Molecular Mechanisms of  HCC Development

Hepatocellular carcinoma is one of the most often causes of death amongst cancer diseases worldwide. Molecular pathogenetic mechanisms of this complex tumor are so far only insufficiently understood and remain to be clarified in order to establish better therapeutic options which are still extremely limited.

Our interest focuses on
-  clarifying the role of TRAIL regulation for HCC development
-  the influence of cytokines in tumor development
-  the regulatory influence of nuclear body proteins on HCC initiation and development
-  mechanisms of malignant transformation of hepatocytes in HCV infection

HCC and Hepatitis C after Liver Transplantation

After organ transplantation, immunosuppression displays a special setting for recurrence and development of certain diseases. The influence of immunosuppressive substances on immune functions with focus on the recurrence of HCV infection and HCC are of particular interest of ongoing clinical and molecular research projects.
