Focus areas

The Clinic for Orthopedics represents the entire orthopedic spectrum in patient care, teaching, and research.

We treat disorders of the entire locomotor system, in patients ranging from newborns to the elderly.

You will be cared for by specialized teams for arthroscopy and sports medicine; endoprostheses and revision endoprostheses; shoulder, foot, and elbow surgery; pediatric orthopedics; spinal disorders; and tumor orthopedics.

At the University Hospital site, in addition to pediatric orthopedics, we perform difficult spinal procedures that require maximum care, as well as procedures for which the close proximity to the university is mandatory.

At the Protestant Hospital Essen-Werden site with its 85 beds, we perform joint replacement procedures of the large joints according to the latest scientific standards. This includes the replacement of artificial joints, minimally invasive procedures, foot surgery, and arthroscopic surgery of knees and shoulders.
